Editorial Policy
The Cournalist is an online-only Citizen Journal. This means we not only accept, but depend on, submissions from the community.
While anyone can publish articles on the Cournalist, all items go through an editorial process. During this editorial process, the quality of the submission is evaluated, grammar and spelling is checked, and then we fact check.
If you are submitting an article, be prepared to substantiate any facts you present. The nature of our fact checking process varies from situation to situation, but we are committed to only publishing facts that we find to be true and accurate to the best of our ability to evaluate.
All submissions being published must be of sound, quality writing. This means sentences are complete, thoughts are well formed, and opinions are clearly stated as such.
Forerunners of Citizen Journalism
Citizen Journalism is very new. Here in Santa Cruz, no one has made it work yet though the importance of making it work grows with each day that passes.
If we are going to make Citizen Journalism work in Santa Cruz, we must first start with the same editorial processes that helped traditional newspapers build a reputation and a trust with their readers. We recognize the fact that as a nascent industry, we might not get things 100% right from the beggining. However, we welcome partnerships, ideas, brainstorming, and rants from everyone and anyone. If you would like to contact the editors of the Cournalist, you can contact them at Cournalist@gmail.com
